(2897) Crowther, James.  (ROH has Crowther, ____)  Col.  110 PA. Mustered in 23 Dec., 1861 for three years.  Promoted from Lt. Col. 18 March, 1863.( Col. Crowther is the highest ranking officer buried in the cemetery.  He was killed 3 May, 1863 at Chancellorsville (SR) The 110h PA was serving with D.Sickles corps and was involved in the attack on the end of the line of Jackson’s men on their way to the flank attack. They were involved the next day in the battle at Hazel Grove and it is here that Colonel Crowther was killed. Originally buried at Chancellorsville (ROH). His grave is marked by a common soldier stone.

Mustered 1 Sept., 1862.  Killed 5 May, 1864 at Wilderness.  Originally buried at Wilderness Burial Grounds, Spotsylvania (Reg).  ROH says Allsop's Lot, Fredericksburg.  (There is some confusion with this soldier; he could have been killed at Fredericksburg as stone reads 13 Dec., 1862.  According to their reports the 7th lost one man at Fred. and 15 at Wilderness.)
