The Capt. and a private from his company made a coffin of three cracker-boxes placed end to end and nailed to a couple of saplings. They held a simple burial for him. Farmer and was a slave owned by Dr. Turner Wilson.  Killed in action on June 16, 1864 by Confederate guerrillas near Pierson’s farm Richmond County, Virginia. (ROH)

(1177) Wilson, Samuel B.  Private.  Co.B, 100 PA.  Mustered in 22 Feb., 1864 for three years at “under age”.  Killed in action at Spotsylvania Court House 12 May, 1864.  Mentioned in The 100th Pennsylvania Roundhead Regiment 1861- 1865 (Gavin). (Reg).  Originally buried at Beverly's Farm, Spotsylvania. Enlisted with his best friend Dave Hutchison. They reported for duty at Camp Copeland in Pittsburgh.  They were extremely close.  Neighbors would say, “If Davy gets his feet wet, Sam’s sure to take a cold.” Davy was captured and died later that year.
