Killed 25 Dec., 1862 at Fredericksburg (SR).  Has three letters at Chatham in volume 77 dating from 30 Sept. to 18 Dec., 1862.  Originally buried at Cliff's Farm, Stafford (ROH).  Note:  there is also a listing for a Lt. Col of the same name in SR, who died on 13 Dec.  This is most likely inacurate because the 5th had another Lt. Col. in that battle.  Also, the Stafford Co. burial indicates that he "Prvt. Gillson" died within Union lines; records indicate that battle deaths were innitially buried in Fredericksburg.

(3857) Grant, A.J.  Private. Co.G, 58 PA. Died May, 1864. Originally buried at McCoull's Farm, Spotsylvania (ROH). No soldier with this name or these initials served in the 58th PA. Additionally, the 58th PA did not serve in the Fredericksburg area. The body that occupies this grave was found near the Bloody Angle on the Spotsylvania Court House Battlefield. It is apparent that the soldier’s remains were misidentified and that the body found may have belonged to Private Andrew J. Grant of Co. G, 58th VA, who was killed May 12, 1864 near the Bloody Angle.
